The effects of Medicinal Marijuana vary with its strength and dosage and with the state of mind of the user. Typically, small doses result in a feeling of well-being. The intoxication lasts two to three hours, but accompanying effects on motor control last much longer.

The number of people detained in hospital for mental and behavioural problems due to cannabis use has soared since the drug was reclassified.Data released by the Scottish Executive in a parliamentary answer this week will show 494 discharges from acute hospitals last year after a "cannabinoid"– related diagnosis, compared with 285 in 2003, the year before cannabis was downgraded from a class B to a class C drug. Medicinal marijuana may be legal in Canada, but try finding a doctor who will sign the paper to get it, says a B.C. woman who has been looking for more than a year. Doctors research could help illegal drugs battle. In a focus on health research a review of localised studies in Dublin shows that the impact of the drug problem is felt disproportionately in the urban poor communities.
A new report on the illicit drug market in Ireland by the Health Research Board (HRB) indicates that research by doctors and other professionals could help disrupt illicit drug markets. “Despite huge global investment in measures aimed at eliminating it, the illicit drug market continues to expand,” said Johnny Connolly, criminologist and research officer in the Drug Misuse Research Division of the HRB, Full Disruption........

Vancover> Medical marijuana "refugee" Steve Kubby, his wife, Michele, and their two daughters are scheduled to be deported to the United States this week unless they can delay a removal order at a Federal Court of Canada hearing this morning.The family is asking for an emergency stay of the order by Immigration Canada, arguing that Mr. Kubby's health will suffer if he is deported and has to serve a 120-day jail sentence in California without marijuana to deal with his adrenal cancer. Rhode Island Legalizes Medical Marijuana

Rhode Island on Tuesday became the 11th state to legalize medical marijuana and the first since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in June that patients who use the drug can still be prosecuted under federal law.
The House overrode a veto by Gov. Don Carcieri, 59-13, allowing people with illnesses such as cancer and AIDS to grow up to 12 marijuana plants or buy 2.5 ounces of marijuana to relieve their symptoms.
